UPDATE: Iran: Call for the unconditional release of Mahboobeh Abbasgholizadeh
WLUML is extremely relieved to learn of Dr. Abbasgholizadeh’s release, on bail, on 1st December 2004.
Many thanks to all of you who responded to our call. We know that many letters were delivered to the Iranian authorities.
We have always appreciated Dr. Abbasgholizadeh and the Iranian NGO's Training Center as excellent representatives of the diversity and dynamism of Iranian civil society; and we have benefited from Dr Abbasgholizadeh’s intellectual analysis and insights into women’s issues. These aspects of Iranian society are mostly unknown to the world at large and very important for changing the unfortunately poor and inappropriate image of Iran abroad.
We sincerely hope that any cases that may have been framed against Dr. Abbasgholizadeh are dropped as soon as possible and that other journalists arrested recently are also released.
In solidarity,
Women Living Under Muslim Laws
