Palestine/Israel: Supreme Court rules Israeli army not to remove bodies
On 14 April 2002, the Israeli Supreme Court judged in favour of a petition filed by LAW and Adalah, calling for the immediate cessation of the burial of Palestinians in separate mass graves.
With this decision, LAW and Adalah prohibited the Israeli army to continue to bury bodies in the way they have been doing. The Israeli Supreme Court ruled that the International Committee of the Red Cross should be allowed to accompany the Israeli army to examine, collect and identify the bodies and the court advised that the Palestinian Red Crescent Society takes part in the identification process. The Supreme Court also ruled that bodies that have already been cleared should be handed over to the families and allow burials to be conducted in a respectful manner by family members.
