Dear friends,
The much awaited hearing of the appeal of Ms. Amina Lawal, convicted in March 2002 for adultery and condemned to death by stoning under the Sharia Law by a lower Sharia court, took place yesterday August 27 2003 at the Sharia Court of Appeal in Katsina under tight security. Legal arguments by Ms. Lawal's lead counsel, Barrister Yawuri were concluded at yesterday's hearing which took almost the whole day. The case will be determined on September 25, 2003.
We hereby express our appreciation to you all for the kind words in the numerous letters and telephone calls as well as the donations aimed at assisting BAOBAB with the protection and promotion of women's human rights in Nigeria.
