WLUML is deeply concerned about reports of violent attacks and arrests of women's rights activists, women's groups and human rights defenders on 8 March 2006, International Women’s Day. Those gathered were attacked and assaulted by plain-clothes militia, special anti riot forces of the Revolutionary guards, soldiers and police.
Palestinian women commemorate International Women's Day, despite the many challenges faced. Commemoration is not celebration; Palestinian women have a long way to go before gaining full rights in their own society.
For March 8 2006, BAOBAB is specifically working with women at the community level in 2 local government areas of Lagos State - Kosofe and Alimosho. BAOBAB hopes to repeat this collaborative effort in other areas and states in Nigeria in the future.
