BAOBAB for Women’s Human Rights organized the Africa Regional Meeting in collaboration with Femmes et Droits Humains, (FDH) Mali from January 24 -28, 2006 in Bamako Mali. There were 33 participants drawn from 14 African countries.
For March 8 2006, BAOBAB is specifically working with women at the community level in 2 local government areas of Lagos State - Kosofe and Alimosho. BAOBAB hopes to repeat this collaborative effort in other areas and states in Nigeria in the future.
The Federal Government has approved a draft bill seeking to ban same sex marriages and relationships in the country. If enacted by the National Assembly, offenders face a five-year jail term without option of fine.
