INTERNSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT: WLUML is looking for a publications intern!




Women Living Under Muslim Laws (WLUML) transnational feminist solidarity network seeks interns to support the works of its Research and Publications Committee. The intern is expected to work roughly 10 hours a week for a period of four months with the potential to extend to organize, tag and upload the organization’s existing publications on its new website. This position will report to one of lead Committee coordinators, Mona Tajali or Homa Hoodfar. 


About WLUML:

Women Living Under Muslim Laws (WLUML) is a transnational feminist solidarity network that promotes human rights and gender justice and equality for people whose lives are shaped, conditioned or governed by patriarchal and/or authoritarian interpretations of Islam. 



WLUML produces regular publications (in the form of books, articles, and reports) that are geared towards reaching a wide audience, including practioners and activists in Muslim countries and beyond  working towards gender equality and justice. Our Publication and Research intern will support the organizing, tagging, and uploading of the organization’s existing publications onto our newly developed website. Updating the existing tables of ISBN and ISSN number and toinsre that they have been registered with the appropriate international offices.  knowoledge of working and editing with Adobi Acrobat would be great asset. This entails potentially reading the publications with the intention to provide brief summaries and keywords (tags) that help in locating the publication on the new website. 

Additionally, the interns will provide their input on how to best thematically organize and curate the publications on the website that is appealing and easy to use for diverse audiences. 


Required Skills:

  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong command over the English language 
  • Proactive and self-motivated with the ability to work with little supervision 
  • Hard worker and quick learner 
  • Kind, empathetic, and a good listener

Desired Skills:

  • Ability to read and speak other languages, such as Arabic, Persian, Urdu, Turkish, and French
  • Having proof-reading and editing experience 
  • Publication experience 
  • An eye for curating materials and crafting an appealing and workable system  

Duration: Four months with the possibility to extend

Location: Remote

Number of hours: 10 hours per week

Renumeration: WLUML does not currently provide renumeration for interns. 

Supervision: the postholder will be supervised by Dr. Tajali (from Agnes Scott College, Atlanta, GA, USA) or Dr. Homa Hoodar (from Concordia University, Montreal, Canada)
