Women Living Under Muslim Laws welcomes the appointment of Mary Lawlor as UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders by the United Nation Human Rights Council during its 43rd session. Ms. Lawlor’s appointment is a clear recognition of her years of dedication to the security and wellbeing of human rights defenders who are increasingly at risk in many parts of the world. She founded the Front Line defender in 2001 and worked tirelessly to ensure the security of human rights defenders.
