Yesterday, we heard the sad news of the passing of Marieme, a visionary and fearless woman whose commitment, passion and spirit touched so many of our lives.
Through her fierce commitment to gender equality, human rights and justice, Marieme helped bring the voices and struggles of women living under Muslim laws into the global feminist movement. But her contribution was so much more than her ideas and activism. She believed deeply in solidarity and sisterhood, and she lived those values, reaching across borders, building connections, encouraging young women, and standing beside women in their struggles.
Many of us were inspired, challenged and strengthened simply by knowing her. Her energy, generosity and unwavering commitment left a lasting mark on the lives of countless women around the world.
We celebrate her life as we mourn her loss with deep sadness. We will remember Marieme with gratitude, affection and a renewed commitment to the values she lived for.
