Züheyla Izin is a Ph.D. candidate in the Social and Cultural Analysis program at the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Concordia University. Her research focuses on the veiling/unveiling movement as deliberate public and political action, with a particular focus on the case of women’s voluntary unveilings in Turkey under the rule of the Islamist Justice and Development Party. She has worked as an independent researcher with Muslim women’s organizations in Turkey and Spain with a focus on Muslim women’s activism and feminist consciousness, Islamophobia, and multiculturalism in Europe.
